Why Your Soul Keeps Pulling You in Certain Directions
Jun 26, 2026
The clues to your purpose aren't hidden—they're already showing up in your desires.
One of the biggest mistakes we make when looking for purpose is assuming it's hiding.
Like it's buried somewhere deep in the jungle of our psyche, waiting for us to finally stumble across it.
So we search.
We analyze.
We overthink.
We try to figure it out.
And all the while, purpose is sitting there waving at us.
I have a different perspective on purpose these days.
I don't think it's hidden.
I think it's constantly communicating with us.
The problem is that we've been taught not to trust what it's saying.
Your soul has a language.
And one of the primary ways it speaks is through desire.
Not the fleeting desire for a new handbag or a vacation.
I'm talking about the deeper pull.
The thing that keeps calling your name.
The thing that keeps showing up.
The thing you can't quite seem to let go of.
Maybe it's a dream you've had for years.
Maybe it's a place you're drawn to.
Maybe it's a type of work.
A creative project.
A cause.
A way of living.
You dismiss it.
You explain it away.
You tell yourself it's unrealistic.
Then a few months later it shows up again.
That's not random.
I've noticed something fascinating over the years.
The closer people get to themselves, the harder it becomes for them to live a life that isn't theirs.
At first, you can ignore the nudges.
You can stay in the job.
Stay in the relationship.
Stay in the identity.
Stay in the routine.
But eventually, something starts to itch.
Then ache.
Then scream.
Not because you're broken.
Because you're being called forward.
Most people think purpose arrives like a lightning bolt.
One giant revelation.
One moment where the heavens open and everything becomes clear.
Sometimes it happens that way.
Usually it doesn't.
Usually purpose arrives as a whisper.
A curiosity.
A fascination.
A recurring thought.
A longing that refuses to leave.
And because it doesn't arrive dramatically, we dismiss it.
We think:
"That can't be it."
"It's too simple."
"It's not practical."
"I need more certainty first."
But what if certainty isn't the first step?
What if trust is?
What if your job isn't to know the entire path?
What if your job is simply to honor the next breadcrumb?
The next conversation.
The next idea.
The next experience.
The next thing that lights you up.
Because purpose isn't usually revealed all at once.
It's revealed through movement.
And every time you ignore what genuinely calls to you, you move further away from yourself.
Every time you honor it, even in a small way, you move closer.
This is why I don't believe purpose is something you find.
I think it's something you remember.
Something that becomes visible as you stop listening to everyone else's expectations and start listening to your own inner knowing.
The signs are already there.
The desires are already there.
The pull is already there.
The question isn't:
"What is my purpose?"
The question is:
"What keeps calling me that I keep pretending not to hear?"
Because that might be where your soul has been trying to lead you all along.
